Power to the T

06_katherine-hamnett-01.jpg

I am currently researching for an article I want to do about T-shirts and the messages they convey. Which can be self-expressions of political ideas & beliefs, they can also be ironic slogans, a parody of a brand, or simply a brand statement. T-shirts have drawn a deliberate link between fashion and the serious issues circulating in society.

Versace Atelier

I find it such a treat to see a designer's impression of a garment on the page, and then it realised on a model. Carrying on from the previous post, this is more Atelier Versace Spring 2009.
Superb illustrations too.

Action Shot.

Now this is what Versace calls bursting out of the page!
There's a lush dress under all those graphics, and there
was me saying only today that I did not like red clothing!
oh how fickle I am...

Girls on Trains

Photography by Steven Meisel:

I smiled when I came across this editorial... I have been pitching a "Girls on Trains" beauty shoot earlier this week to those I am working with, and like many of my ideas, I was met with curious frowns. Well check it out, even legendary Meisel has got his hands dirty on public transport! =)
The shoot I want to to is more young and playful though, the girls here are evidently not impressed at being on the underground!

More words etc.

Who knew finding a title for a magazine would be so hard? Especially when I have to justify whatever title I chose, considering the magazine content (fashion, feminism) , the reader, the tone, the mission statement, etc... sigh

More words...

Fashionism          Wondrous                 Matter

Frame         Establish             Ponder

Esteem           Cover

On a more positive note, I'm really excited about the possible contributors I have lined up for the mag! A gorgeous mix of fashionable creatives and talent... yay!

A Burst of Bright!

I have been googling about trying to find images that would communicate to you the visions of delight bounding about in my head. I want each picture to be huge colourful double page spreads that appear to 'burst off the page'. (The apostrophes are because I seem to have said 'burst of the page' so often when describing the kind of shoots I want to do, it somehow warrants it... okay I may not make much sense!?)

Sneaky Peek...

At the unholy time of 11am on a Sunday, I was across London in Old Street. (yeah, I'm not a morning person...) My assistant on the magazine, Sandy, and I had an appointment with Fanny, from Fanny and the Cave. I dare that name not tickle you! Fanny and the Cave is a fashion showroom with a host of unusual vintage treasures. Sandy and I delved around to find key pieces for the "Rescue Yourself Riding a White Horse" shoot. Sadly we are no closer to finding a white horse... Although we did find these gems among others. Above is a vintage piece that screamed Disney Princess at me...

Christian Lacroix red waistcoat and Frank Usher jacket. I love these pieces! The green Frank Usher jacket stole my heart when I saw Susie wearing it on Style Bubble. As reasonable as these pieces are, I saw about eight that I loved and want for the shoot, it all adds up. When we are dealing with those kind of pennies and taking into account that I haven't worked in forever and have no time to now... I'm going to have to make some heartbreaking sacrifices. .Poor me.

Just Words...

I still haven't got a title for the magazine frustratingly. My mind is whirring from so many 'still have-to-do's that I am just writing down words that grab my attention and hoping one pops out to be declared 'the perfect title'...

Heart of Glass Resisting Flourish

Quote/Unquote Repertoire Blank

Astound Me Necessary Evil

Contradiction

So yeah, help with suggestions still needed... so do comment- even with just words you like the sound of- you can remain anonymous if you like...!

Wondrous.

Images taken from Wonderland, one of my favourite magazines.
I am struggling to give my magazine a strong graphic identity such as this. I am in awe of these layouts. I don't think it's as easy as it looks, but I have help coming from a friend to, hopefully, prove me wrong.

Red.

Lily Cole photographed by Tim Walker
I just finished a piece about Red as a symbolic colour within fashion. Its pretty short, so I am thinking of doing a 'red' shoot to give the article more weight. That and I adore red hair and will use any excuse, not that I need one, to feature red hair in the magazine! The best 'excuse' really is being able to post these incredible pictures!

Out today

And I must admit, I am so in aware of this cover! It's Beth, of course, but also the colours on this... sigh... it's absolutely stunning, my jealous meter is sky high- I want to pinch that palette!

& the Cover Girl! Could she be any more perfect?
I'm counting down to seeing the rest...

Portrait of a City

A reader asked where this image came from in a previous post... it is from Vogue Nippon, September 2008, photographed by Mario Sorrenti. Here is some more of the editorial!

I Blame Disney

Article Snippet:

People say things they don’t mean when they’re angry. So we’re told and will to believe in desperation to maintain ignorant bliss. But then there are those comments that seem to pop up sparingly in ‘playful’ jokes and over boozy lunches. Apparently, I am an unreasonable fantasist who expects too much. That’s been broken down and edited from several conversations and slanging matches from the mouth of my dear husband by the way.  Not to worry, this is not a Dear Deidre moment, merely an observation that got my already overworked mind thinking some more...
